My 3-year-old loves this preschool, and so do I. It's play-based, which is perfect for his silly and active personality, but he has also learned plenty.
After preschool this week, he taught me the word oviparous (don't feel bad, I had to look it up, too). He has also learned his alphabet and the other fundamentals, as well.
He is also learning about art and music, as there is far more deep enrichment at the school than one might expect from a play-based preschool. One of the photos I attached is a painting done collectively by 3-year-olds, and the kids also delight in music mornings.
More importantly for me, he has learned social skills. I think the social value of play-based preschool is often overlooked, but Mrs. Bonnema does a wonderful job of helping each kid navigate social interactions between the other children as well as the rotating list of parents in the classroom.
That brings me to my favorite part of Fort Collins Preschool: getting to work in the classroom and watch my son and all the other kids grow and learn and, most of all, play.
Contrary to another reviewer's comment, I have been outside with the kids on almost every teach day. The teachers and the kids value the time in the fun playground.
Also, communication with parents is very thorough, including monthly newsletters and regular updates on the range of events always going on at the school.
I can't recommend the preschool for everyone, as the half-day preschool and the teach-parent requirements may not be a good fit for some families and their schedules, but having taken my older son to three other preschools, I strongly recommend Fort Collins Preschool for any family with some flexibility in their schedules and the desire to be a part of their child's earliest education experiences.
